Montfort village, between Crolles and Lumbin. Car park at the funicular railway. The walk begins at the funicular railway, near  Montfort stream.

The path goes past the water reservoirs and then goes up to the ruins of Château Robert – Château de Monfort – 350 m. The path goes on up through the forest and crosses the stream under the waterfalls. It crosses the rails of the funicular railway and reaches the Petites Roches plateau, the arrival point of the railway and Les Gaudes hamlet- Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet- 950m.
Starting point : car park of the funiculair railway - Montfort
Arrival point : Pal de Fer – Les Gaudes hamlet
Altitude starting point : 250 m
Altitude arrival point : 950 m
Difference in altitude :700 m

Time for ascension : 2 hours
Total time for walk : 3 ½  hours
Signposting : yellow rectangles of PNR Chartreuse
Difficulty : mountain walk and big difference in altitude

If you do not like walking, seize the opportunity to  take the funicular railway, it is the steepest in Europe !
